SPECIAL AWARD TO THE BEST WINERY IN ITALY.
“We are in the center of Sicily in a very hot area, with temperature changes among the highest in Italy – said Gianfranco Lombardo during the award ceremony held at Palazzo Bovara, Milan – We are happy to have brought these awards to Sicily, the wine “continent”, rich in important native varieties “.
Caltanissetta is still little known for wine viticulture, locating itself in the area of Canicattì, renowned to produce table grapes.
However, the production of wine grape stands out for its excellent quality taking the name of “heroic viticulture”, due to the steep soils and climatic features of the area.
The “Mondial des Vins Extremes” Competition, dedicated to wines produced from vineyards grown over 500 meters above sea level and in inaccessible areas, awarded Tenute Lombardo, located in the territories of Caltanissetta and San Cataldo, for the heroic cultivation of vineyards, strictly of Sicilian native varieties.
For over half a century, driven by a great passion for the land, Lombardo family, today run by the three brothers Salvatore, Gianfranco and Roberto, together with the oenologist Tonino Guzzo, has been producing wines of high personality, contributing to the territorial enhancement of central Sicily where the distance from the sea, the altitude, the high temperatures, and the scarce rains make the cultivation of vines hard, achieving excellent results in terms of quality of the wines.
