A history dating back to 1833. A family, the Florio family, with a legendary history. The first example of a Sicilian business with a modern and international outlook. Three generations who made it possible for Sicily to become the heart of the world’s economy and culture, the owners of the first Italian shipping company (Navigazione Generale Italiana), the inventors of tinned tuna in oil, and the organisers of the first Italian car race, the Targa Florio. The Florio Wine Cellars gaze out towards the sea in Marsala, Western Sicily. With grapes caressed by breezes and flavourful due to the proximity to the sea, the magnificent and silent Florio Wine Cellars house more than 3,000 oak casks of different sizes and ages where the Marsala Florio wines age, seemingly motionless. A Winery steeped in tradition and craftsmanship, a bearer of knowledge when it comes to creating Italian fortified wine: Marsala. Today, the Wine Cellars welcome guests in four tuff-stone aisles, separated by pointed arches and surrounded by about six million litres of ever-evolving Marsala wine.
