Helios 100% Grillo comes from grapes sourced from the Paradiso vineyard, with clayey and calcareous rich soil, in the DOC of Contessa Entellina (Palermo).
In the heart of Western Sicily, between Sambuca di Sicilia (AG) and Contessa Entellina (PA), the Di Giovanna family has been cultivating its vineyards organically for five generations. The company is managed by brothers Gunther and Klaus who dedicate the Helios wines to their father Aurelio Di Giovanna, a pioneer in the 1980s of the Terre Sicane viticultural revolution.
In this enchanting territory, rich in history and with landscapes of rare beauty, nestled between the Belìce and Verdura rivers and dominated by Monte Genuardo, reflected in Lake Arancio. Here, the fertility of the soil gives the vines extraordinary organoleptic qualities.
Helios Grillo, with its intense bouquet of white flowers, is an expression of those landscapes. Elegant, fruity and savory, its taste immediately brings to mind the flavors and colors of this area of Sicily.
The Grillo grapes are harvested by hand and follow a rigorous vinification protocol with spontaneous fermentation in steel, in contact with the skins for 8 hours, and then pressing. The aging takes place on the fine lees in steel for 9 months and for a small part in French oak tonneaux.
The pleasant complexity of Helios 2019 arouses the curiosity to try it again after a few years. The wine seems to have enough character to evolve and improve over time in the bottle.
