The story of Nero d’Avola Helios 2019 Di Giovanna DOC Sicilia begins in the Paradiso vineyard in Contessa Entellina. Paradiso is the name of the historic family vineyard that gives life to the fine selection of Nero d’Avola and Syrah grapes for this award-winning wine.
Surrounded by splendid olive groves, the vineyards at Paradiso grow on tuffaceous soil, rich in minerals. At about 400 meters above sea level, the vines are cultivated by single cordon pruning. The organic grapes are hand-harvested and quickly brought into the cellar where a rigorous vinification protocol makes the expression of Helios (85% Nero d’Avola and 15% Syrah) full and elegant.

Di Giovanna, one of the oldest wine-growing families in Sicily, managed by brothers Gunther and Klaus, focuses on native Sicilian vines: Nero d’Avola, Nerello Mascalese, Grillo, Catarratto and some international varieties: Chardonnay, Syrah and Merlot. All in certified organic farming, since 1997.
Planted on the basis of research and experimentation began in the 1980s, the five family vineyards, Fiuminello -San Giacomo- Miccina- Gerbino – Paradiso, are located in the small DOCs of Contessa Entellina and Sambuca di Sicilia, in the heart of the Terre Sicane.

On the slopes of Monte Genuardo, a protected nature reserve, lies the modern wine cellar where you can enjoy a splendid landscape.

Love for their territory, passion and pride characterize the family’s commitment to quality winemaking. The family property of nearly 100 hectares, with 65 hectares of vineyards, 14 of olive groves and 21 of wheat fields and forests, is managed with great respect for nature and  quality production.

Nero d’Avola from the heart of the Terre Sicane

Nero d’Avola Helios 2019 Di Giovanna DOC Sicilia is an elegant wine, aged nine months in French oak tonneaux, that stands out for its silky, round character and for the tannic texture of great finesse. An wine that brothers Gunther and Klaus dedicated to their father, Aurelio, a pioneer in the 1980s of the viticultural revolution in the Terre Sicane.

Helios Nero d’Avola shows an intense ruby red color. On the nose, a wonderful bouquet of red and black fruits, earthy notes and hints of purple flowers harmonize with notes of sweet spice and chocolate. On the palate it is firm yet pleasant, with velvety tannins and a long and persistent finish. A wine to pair with beef stew, duck breast, charcuterie and parmesan. It’s a wine to discover and to fall in love with!
